Well A.R.T.I.'s refit is almost finished, I don't get to chip away at it as often as i would like to, just the utility pack and the rig and he will be ready for animations.

Since I've been having no end of trouble getting my latest reel to upload to You tube, I figured I'd re render it , and since I'm rerendering I'm going to rework my older models. I sort have started that with my werewolf, but I've been slow to it, so here's a taste of A.R.T.I.'s rework. I know my modeling instructor will be happy that I'm finally giving my old robot design the attention it deserved...

So this is a test compile to see if the render layers and animation will work before I go any further with this scene i'm doing this is the result of 6 H of modeling , revisions, textureing, rig/rig repair, and keyframeing the animation. Rain effects done in After Effects.

New Wulff sculpts

I've been unhappy with my werewolf's head for a while now so I've been toying with a resculpt. Here are some renders of my preliminary resculpt. I think I'm going to adjust the base mesh before I go any further to closer resemble this shape.

I think I'm also going to rotate the hands palms down, the way they are adds too much 'candy wrapper' twist when I animate.

So I fixed the audio issue on this reel so you can hear the lipsyncs and background audio.

Here is the end of quarter reel I was cutting together last week. I am curently experimenting with uploading a higher res Modeling reel to youtube, if it works i'll embed it at the top right of the page, with more higher res to follow.

Well here is my second run at the sub. Better textures, and refined Geometry, it has it's main masts now rudders on all the tail fins recesses for bow planes, and torpedo tubes with hatches. I don't know how much more I'll add right now as I want to keep this as a low poly game quality model. However I may tackle a high detail film quality version once the quarter is over.

Oh my God... basic textures on a model BEFORE a deadline I gave myself, AND posted to boot. The world is ending , look for Nazis riding Dinosaurs. Still some issues with my texture map so it's not entirely done before my deadline so I guess the world is safe from the Rapture for another week or so.

So I became inspired today after a seminar I attended, so when I finally made it home I cranked this out in about 3 hours... it needs more detail work and better textures, but it is a good start hope to finish it tomorrow or Sunday at the latest, depends how busy I get with end of quarter work. It's not rigged yet but the screw's pivot is set properly for a test rotation and the rudders on the port and starboard stern fins are also properly pivoted to deflect. The stacks on the tower are place holders until I get the real ones modeled.

So I'm going to be getting off my busy butt and updating with some stills, and I will upload some video soon.

This is a low poly character I modeled using the guidelines for a local game company's modeling test. She (minus room and pine box) comes in at around 5500 polygons counting props with full body as well as clothes and secondary props with turned off visibility for "holster" cycles used Maya and Mudbox she has a normal map as well as a displacement, but currently only the normal is applied.

This is a scene I'm workin on getting perfect for my light rig animation... if I get super ambitious I think I'll try to comp in rolling waves and some audio to go with it.

Other than that aside from a terible computer crash I've been spending some time with mudbox, zbrush and 3DS MAX. No where as good as maya but getting there.

Klan Klan Macross Frontier

So I've been feeling a little stagnant, so I decided to pick up some super sculpty, and kick it old school...here are the work progression pics...

The first torso-ie one was all I intended to do , I meant to just do a bit every other night but 7.5 h later I had the last set.

The character is Klan Klan from Macross Frontier. I've noticed that I seem to have Macross on the brain, but it can't be helped since 2/22/09 just passsed and I was way too busy(Ahem...poor) to have gone to the Super Dimensional Mall at Japan's Macross Launch party. (Feb 22/09 for those not in the know was the launch date for the maiden flight of the Macross Battle Fortress in the original series)

So I followed the time honored Otaku tradition of making my own swag... and who knows time and necessity permitting, I may try to do the whole cast...

She's a bit big tho even for a zentradi, I'd intended to size her to the 1-100 scale line from Toynami.

So she's here ready for a light sanding in prep for paint... sadly this will come later as no rest for the wicked means back to digital 3D, I can only afford to waste 1 day every so often.

I think I'm going to resculpt her before doing others, there are things I'd change on her; her hair, face, breasts, and buttocks all need some tweaking and I'd scale her down by about 2 inches.

All in all though she came out good being the first time I've touched sculpty in almost a year.

so a little bit of a fur test for Wulff just to see if that's the direction i'll go when I have him finished, if I can get it to comb correctly I think I will. The blade is a short sword i think he'll carry for the purpose of parrying other blades, tooth and claw being his predominant weapons.

So a while back we modeled Stickfa toys as an intro to character modeling. Mine had an adventurous streak so he 'requisitioned ' a lamp I made for a character I was designing at the time.

I was going for an old copper bullseye lamp combined with the look of an ishi-doro(Japanese stone lantern)

A table setup I did when I was learning about caustic refraction and sub surface scattering, it's not bad, there is some tweaking i'd still like to do, but that is the way life is i guess.
